And I think I know the Sheckley story you're talking about - can't just now recall what movies they made of it though!Burlhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15471864627412228340noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8492795376174847769.post-29289888517746917372021-01-29T17:20:39.929-06:002021-01-29T17:20:39.929-06:00I'm glad you're mentioning the book. I was thrilled when I heard that there would be a movie based on "Running Man" and very disapointed that they turned it into a standard Schwarzenegger-Flick. It had it's entertaining values, but after all they have changed they really could have removed the "based on a novel"-credit and just called it "Arnie kills people - The Movie Part VI".

The idea of a game show where the contestants are running for their lives has been around before. There's been a story by Robert Sheckley that has been adapted several times. My favorite one is a TV-movie from Germany called "Das Todesspiel" where they casted the real showmaster Dieter Thomas Heck as the lead. When it was aired in the 70s several people took it for real and wanted to be a contestant in the next show. It was a nice tonic after the mediocrity that was The Running Man! I wish they'd stuck closer to the Bachman/King book, frankly!Burlhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15471864627412228340noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8492795376174847769.post-6022385722058615932021-01-27T14:58:05.635-06:002021-01-27T14:58:05.635-06:00I remember NoMeansNo! They were pretty good, as I recall (the memory is going back a bit now).

I agree completely here - great, weird cast, but all they get to do is run about shooting and that's all folks. It's disappointing. They should have asked the casting director for good ideas about what to do with that lot.THX 1139https://www.blogger.com/profile/07574901864533202054noreply@blogger.com
